Hey, Liz may have a much nicer, larger area to roam in, but she LOVED her walks, her baths in the pond (oh my, did she ever!!), and the people that took care of her.

I remember my parents taking me and my brother the Benson Farm and I also took my children there in the 70's. When I was a kid my parents told me that Gene Autry was a investor in this park. Does anyone know if that is true.

Agreed, Jen. No one's saying the caretakers didn't do the best possible job, and I'm sure that the animals were better off for that attention and care. But the facility itself wasn't the healthiest (spacewise and therefore psychologically) for them. As much as I loved Benson's in my youth - and I... (more)

Bret, please don't take my opinion as a stab at the care the animals received while living at Bensons. I'm sure you and the other animal caretakers took great care of the animals on a daily basis in the conditions you were given. I was simply referring to the obvious lack of space or small... (more)

Jen, is sad to see someone that has such a narrow minded poorly informed opinion of things. Many of the Bensons' facilities were by no means the 'best'. They were old but in a constant state of upgrade. However, these animals all received EXCELLANT care. Care provided by serious, dedicated,... (more)

Although I loved going there as a kid, as adult, I look back and can't believe the condition and size of the animal enclosures. The gorilla exhibit was a concrete, 14x14 cell, with a single tire swing in the middle. How can a social animal such as a gorilla thrive in such conditions? In my... (more)

Just loved Bensons. Can't believe it ever closed. My parents took me there many times when I was little, then my husband took me there again much later. It's one of my fondest memories. I so wish it would reopen somehow. I bet it would make alot of money. Families need outings like that to see and... (more)

I am 14 years old. I have heard so many great things about this place. I have never had the chance to be able to get and see all the amazing creatures that were there. I truly think we as a group not one man but everyone should try and reopen Benson's Animal Farm.

I worked there when I was 22... have great memories of riding the elephant in the parade, having Colossus the gorilla infatuated by my painted toenails, holding baby tigers and black bear cubs. It was a wonderful part of my life, and I have many fond memories!!!

Is you husband Dennis, son of Gerard N. Provencher? I am related to them thru marriage of other relatives.... (more)
