I was lucky to go with my Dad [JIM RUTMAN]who was freinds with alot of the people who worked at Bensons in in the late 70's.I have great memories of riding Queeny, playing with the lion cubs and princess the mountain lion. And I loved giving Dunkin donuts to the gorilla who one day stuck his finger threw the bars and poked me than ran and banged on the grate above him in his back room. And every time I saw him he would play that game with me but only after he had his honey glazed donut. Thanks for all the memories.

I have so many wonderful memories of Bensons. Our parents took us their many times as children, we visited with elementary school field trips, and I took my daughter there as well until they closed when she was almost 3 years old. We have many old 8mm home movies and stills of our visits. I work in Hudson and drive by there every day and it still makes me sad to see it the way it is. It is wonderful they're doing something with the land now, but I sure wish it were still Bensons.

It was sad to see the park in the condition it is now from the pictures that everyone posted. My family used to take me there every year when I was a kid growing up in the 80's and I remember all the great times I had. The animals and rides and exhibits. I wish I was able to take my 2 yr old son there because of how much fun I remember it being!

Will the Benson's Exhibit be open during Hudson's Old Home Days at the Hill's Memorial Library? If so, what days? August 6, 7, 8 and 9? Would love to attend but live quite far away so need to plan ahead.

Just a reminder, the Benson's exhibit will be featured on NH Chronicle on Monday, August 3rd at 7:30pm on WMUR Channel 9. It's about a 7 minute segment on the exhibit and background of the park and should include a bunch of footage from the time it was open. Let everyone know.

Just to let everyone know Benny the donkey from Bensons is still alive. He lives in very caring home and every winter he still goes to the manger scene in Westford MA.

The Benson's committee is live right now on tv
they want to do another clean up on August 15 and 16
But, there is a lot of poison ivy out there.
Is there anyone out there licensed to spray for that that would be willing to voluteer to do this so we can then get the clean up going and get going on an open house for the public in the late fall???
contact me here or my husband at jasper827@myfairpoint.net
You must be officially able to do this (license)

My Father & Mother knew the Lion tamer at Benson's well, this was in the 1956-58 era, they corresponded with him for many years after. I think they may have some photos, I'll ask them.
