I was there two weekends ago to check the place out. While I was walking in, there was a family on their way out. They told me it was perfectly fine and allowed to visit the park. I didn't see any POSTED signs while strolling inside the area. Was very beautiful to see all the old overgrown buildings. I took some pictures and video footage: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ceaserfineartphotography/3508680955/

Hi All, I guess my plan to walk in the benson's property today, is OFF !! I've been told by one of the selectmen. That even though I'm a Benson's committee member. That I nor anyone else is allowed to enter the property witout the board of selectmans permission !! Oh well!, I tried ! Sorry, Jerr D.

Hi All. I took a walk around the park today. It needs some work but doesn't seem too bad to me. If it's not raining tomorrow morning, i'll be there around 11:00am. I'll be walking around trying to put together a rough primary plan to clean up / stabilize the grounds. If you have any ideas or want to volunteer, just look for the BIG guy with the clip board. Thanks,Jerry D.

Boy, I had walked around that park so many times, I never thought that I would forget the layout. I would love to take a walk around and see it again.

I wouldn't mind tagging along if there was going to be a guided walk through Benson's. [A word of caution: when I was there taking photographs, I stayed in open areas for the most part. But I still came home with some nasty poison ivy...]

Dave if you want a walking buddy to walk Bensons let me know. Thank you Kathy for the map. My map is on the back of a place mat that I bought at New England Play World just before it closed.

Was walking the park today.
Came home and dug out a map of Benson's which is very different than the map shown here from Kathy.
Mine looks like a brochure or something like that, looks like a date on the back of 4/71.
Folded in thirds.
Can try and scan it and send it if you'd like.
Was going to try and use it my next walk.

Thanks for the information. What is the large cage attached to the elephant barn? It has two small doors that lead from inside the building out into the cage. The doors are too small for elephants to use--were there monkeys in there? Cats?

The A framed building was once X-mas tree shop and shooting gallery, the gorilla house, the train depot was the building that once sat down on greeley street for the old train that came in from Boston and then moved to the Park for the Benson train station. Log house was Arthur's office, attached underneath was stand one snack bar, the Elephant Barn and the Old Lady in the shoe. Those are the Structures that still stand.
