I've been listening to Dane Cook's Benson's Animal Farm since his CD came out and I had been wondering if that place was real! Now that I found out it was, and listened to the fond memories that everybody has of this place, I ash I could've seen it......and as a freshman in high school (and in Wisconsin ,which is far way) I don't think I'll get to. I guess those types of places aren't very common anymore!

My mom has this video that she made of us at Benson's when we were kids. It's so funny, because it was made with some ridiculous camcorder that was available for rent from the park, and it helped to eternalize some sweet memories of us. I think one of my favorite parts is that the first scene on the video is some strange man saying "And then you push the red button again to turn it off." End scene.

I also have distinct memories of being in a cage. Anybody remember that, and what the sign on it said? It was for pictures, mostly...

Poor poor Dane Cook......always wanted to go but never got the chance. I went once when I was like 8 years old.....never will forget it. Dane, my man, you missed a great place.

What a great nostalgic site this is, preserving the memory of Benson's.

I worked at the farm in 1966 and have many fond memories and photos of those days as well as the people I worked with; Pinky Madison(elephant trainer), George Marshall(chimp trainer/ my boss), Joe Arcaro(cat trainer), and close friend Roland Tiebor Jr.(seal trainer). Last but not least, "Junior", the chimp in the monkey house.

Hopefully this site will be maintained to keep the spirit and memories of that great place alive.

Pam - its on Rt 111 in Hudson NH. If youre on Rt 93, take exit 3 and go west. When you get to the middle of Hudson, there will be a Burger King and a 7-11. Benson's is the area right across the street. Just after the intersection of Rt 111 and Greeley St, on the left hand side across from the 7-11.

I was born and raised in Leominster, Mass. We were always at Benson's. Mention of the llama reminded me that when I was about 11 years old I was feeding the llama and he ate a button off my little jacket I was wearing. I really miss all these things, having been "away" now for 30 years! That's why I still check out these sites. I am glad to see I am not alone in my feelings. I live and work in Minnesota now (the other "Twin Cities")

Ahh good old Bensons. I had such a good time going there with my father when i was young. I went on my first rollercoaster there, the ladybug one. It took 20 min for my brother to get me to go on. Im glad i did.

Okay, so I saw Dane on Saturday night and he jogged my memory. I'm pretty sure I've been here. Did they run commercials on Channel 56 during say "Bozo the Clown?"
I have a faint memory of going and the old woman in the shoe sounds so familiar. I'm in MA...

The shoe from the "old woman in the shoe" is still there. I was there yesterday. The place is kind of creepy now, it's too bad the town doesn't do something with an interested developer to dreate some type of open space/park for everyone to enjoy

I just wanted to say I loved Bensons. When I was young I remember my parents taking us there and I would always want to see the "Old Lady Who Lived In A Shoe" I would walk up the stairs and look in the window and look in the shoe. I wanted to live in that shoe. Even now when I pass the spot that used to be Bensons I think is that shoe still there on the property? Does anyone know where the shoe went? Now I have children of my own and I wish that Bensons was still there and I could take them. It was a wonderful place full of memories.

I tried to feed your goats when I was 6. nothing like animal feed out of a gumball machine with icecream cones for cups.
you still owe me a shoe. that darn goat took a bite out of one.
Its ok, I took it out on your cheetah or panther or whatever it was, I threw a rock at it. Im very very sorry.

Apologize to Bensons animal farm...."check!"

As with everyone else, I too have fond memories of Benson's. My father brought me there as a young kid several times as well as on a few field trips. I'm looking for some images of the park when it was operating in the late 1970's through early 1980's.

Also, I happened to take a drive down rt.111 to find where Benson's used to be so I could take some pictures have what's left of the old park. I couldn't find where the entrance use to be! Does anybody know or have directions that would put me there?

Thanks

I remember one llama in particular, he was pretty mean tempered and his name was Studly. Authur owned him before he bought Bensons, and moved him in with the existing llama group, and he made quite a bit of trouble. lol He could hit you with spit from quite a ways away.
